Texas Programs

The German-Texan Heritage Society is expanding its statewide programs. We offer the following programs and events outside our headquarters city of Austin:

Annual Meeting

Each year our Annual Meeting and Convention is held in a different city or town. On October 9-10, 2009, the Annual Meeting will be held in Round Rock, Texas. More detailed information on this year’s Annual Meeting can be found here.

Genealogy

Genealogical assistance is provided to both members and non-members through our volunteer genealogists, workshops, seminars, and Journal queries. More detailed information on our genealogy programs can be found here.

German Language Classes

Since 2008 we have been expanding our German language classes to new cities and towns. We currently offer classes for children and adults in Brenham, for children only in San Antonio, and for children and adults at our headquarters in Austin. Fall 2009 classes are being planned for Killeen, Round Rock, and Fredericksburg. More information on German Language Classes can be found here. Suggestions for additional towns where we can establish German classes are welcomed. Please contact GTHS Program Director Melanie Schmidt-Dumont with your ideas.

Scholarships

Each year, the German-Texan Heritage Society offers scholarships to the top five research paper winners in the Texas State German Contest for high school and middle school students. More detailed information on our scholarships can be found here.

German Interest Gatherings

GTHS members and others interested in German culture and heritage get together in various parts of the state for networking and socializing. Coordinators are needed for all locations. Please contact GTHS Executive Director Eva Barnett for more information.

GTHS Tables at German Events

GTHS strives to maintain a presence across the state at various German festivals. Look for our information table at your local German events. Volunteers to staff these booths are always needed, so let us know if you can help out for a couple of hours. Suggestions on future events we can participate in are welcomed. Please contact GTHS Program Director Melanie Schmidt-Dumont for more information.
