Carolyn Chipman Evans will come and talk to us. Ms. Evans is the driving force behind the creation of the Cibolo Nature Center just northwest of San Antonio. This wonderful resource includes 100 acres of trails and wilderness in the hill country. It also happens to be the former home of Dr. Ferdinand Herff, a German pioneer surgeon who made significant contributions to Texas history and medicine. Come and hear about both the interesting history tied to the preserve and how you can interact with the beautiful nature surrounding this gem.

“Buddenbrooks”, (not rated, 2006), based on the first novel by the Nobel Prize-winning author Thomas Mann.

As the 19th century gives way to a new era, four generations of a German merchant family cope with the changing times and their own conventions. Destiny ties the rise and fall of the Buddenbrookses’ fortunes to their conflicts between family loyalty and the drive for individual success.

Books will be for sale between 1 and 4 p.m. If Thursday is inconvenient, just call the GTHS office at (512) 482-0927 to arrange an appointment to browse our bookshelves.
