NEW Christmas Market Layout worked wonders!

on December 10th, 2018 by

We had a fantastic Christmas Market on Saturday, December 1. 2018.

The new layout and additional space reduced wait times considerably and allowed people to spread out and enjoy the German Free School grounds.

Whereas last year we had wait times from 2-3 hours to get into the main building, we were able to reduce that time to under 45 minutes. We opened up two more entrances. Visitors were able to come in through the back alley, right next to the Hyatt House. For those with disabilities we had the convenience of a golf cart for an easy drive up and down the hilly entrance. If you entered through the second front entrance on E. 10th Street, you would arrive directly at our Kids Entertainment Center, where Mr. Rudy was busy making sock puppets and entertaining our littlest visitors with German songs.

At our main entrance we tried our best to inform every visitor that there was no need to stand in line unless they wanted to enter the main building. We had new Christmas Huts with original German Christmas items out back on the parking lot, freshly made Glühwein (by our German OMA) close to the live music and Beerhall as well as German food provided by Schaller Stube. If you were lucky enough to get a piece of cake from I’m Catering by Ines Mosley you were in for a real treat! Everything was really delicious and the atmosphere was great! peaceful, relaxed and very Christmassy.

We sold Schwibbogen, Pyramids, Nutcrackers, Smokers, Gingerbread as well as other original goodies imported directly from Germany.

Thank you to everyone who came out. We hope you had a great time.

Next on the agenda are more Christmas huts for the upcoming year. The idea is to get most inventory out of the main building and turn this into an authentic German Christmas Market, where people roam around freely without having to stand in line….unless they want the much desired Glühwein…who knows, maybe we’ll find another Oma and open a second line.

If ever you feel the need to do something good and you want to volunteer, (i.e.: building huts, decorating, at our festivities as cashiers, packers, servers, etc.) you are more than welcome to contact us at

We are trying to keep this Christmas Market an entrance fee free event as long as we can. Your help, be in monetary or physical, is greatly appreciated! We thank you for making this possible for all of us to enjoy.

Merry Christmas from all of us at the German-Texan Heritage Society and a Happy 2019!
