Past Speakers

Our own author and font of knowledge, Helga von Schweinitz, presented on April 18 at 3 p.m. Helga has just printed her second book, German and Germans: Not-so-serious Reflections with Vocabulary Exercises. Those of you who enjoy Helga’s Corner in each newsletter would have enjoyed a chance to hear the author share her readings and her personal reflections on writing her latest work. Vocabulary exercises were optional!

On March 21 at 3 p.m., Carolyn Chipman Evans was the featured speaker. Ms. Evans is the driving force behind the creation of the Cibolo Nature Center just northwest of San Antonio. This wonderful resource includes 100 acres of trails and wilderness in the hill country. It also happens to be the former home of Dr. Ferdinand Herff, a German pioneer surgeon who made significant contributions to Texas history and medicine. We heard about both the interesting history tied to the preserve and how we can interact with the beautiful nature surrounding this gem.
