Speaker Series
On the third Sunday of the month, the Speaker Series at the German Free School invites authors, experts, musicians, and other knowledgeable individuals to present topics relating to Germany and the German-Texan experience. Admission is free.
Come and join us for the upcoming speakers!
On March 21 at 3 p.m., Carolyn Chipman Evans will come and talk to us. Ms. Evans is the driving force behind the creation of the Cibolo Nature Center just northwest of San Antonio. This wonderful resource includes 100 acres of trails and wilderness in the hill country. It also happens to be the former home of Dr. Ferdinand Herff, a German pioneer surgeon who made significant contributions to Texas history and medicine. Come and hear about both the interesting history tied to the preserve and how you can interact with the beautiful nature surrounding this gem.
Our own author and font of knowledge, Helga von Schweinitz, will talk on April 18 at 3 p.m. Helga has just printed her second book, German and Germans: Not-so-serious Reflections with Vocabulary Exercises. Those of you who enjoy Helga’s Corner in each newsletter will get a chance to hear the author share her readings and her personal reflections on writing her latest work. Vocabulary exercises are optional!
A reception follows each program.
