MAIFEST 2010

German Free School
507 E. 10th St.
Austin, Texas
In May 2009, the German-Texan Heritage Society sponsored this fun day of German culture in the gardens of the German Free School in downtown Austin. We enjoyed live music, delicious German food, and a selection of three German beers in the Biergarten: Paulaner Pilsner, Spaten Bock, and Warsteiner Dunkel. Activities included folk dancing and the wrapping of the Maypole by the Austin Waldorf School German students, Don Harms’ marionette show, an amateur arm wrestling tournament, a silent auction, and a used German book sale. Live music was provided by Shirley Johnson, the Austin Saengerrunde and several others. There were special activities for children all day long, including crafts, games, and singing.
